Arakwal
NAIDOC Film Festival
The 3rd annual event will showcase
the newest & hottest short films from indigenous filmmakers.
In conjunction
with Flickerfest & iQ Inc, the Arakwal NAIDOC Film Festival
will present “The New Black:”, a series of seven
new short films, each around 10 minutes long, made by Indigenous
writers, directors and producers.
The series features
a collection of award winning films that premiered at the
Message Sticks Indigenous Film Festival at the Opera House,
including the directorial debuts of Deborah Mailman (Ralph)
and Leah Purcell (Aunty Maggie & The Womba Wakgun). Other
films in the programme are Nia’s Melancholy, Bourke
Boy, The Farm, The Party Shoes & Jacob; all are Byron
Regional premieres.
Films will screen
from 7.30pm on Wednesday 7th July, doors open 7pm at the Byron
Community Centre; tickets available at the door for $8full
/ $6conc. (School & group conc available)
Snacks &
drinks by gold coin donation will be provided by Sisters for
Reconciliation after the 77min (PG rated) film programme.

competition will celebrate the film making talent in the Northern

The BAS Jury Award for Best Short Film will
consist of a film industry package; local sponsor major prize;
dinner for two; tickets to FF2010 Australia -wide; a Screenworks
membership; and a personal consultation with Flickerfest director
Bronwyn Kidd regarding the marketing and distribution pathways
for their project.
The BAS Audience
Award for Best Film winner will receive a dinner for two;

Conditions
& Entry Forms
Films may
originate from any format, but must be entered in DVD format
and no more than 30 mins in length. All genres are acceptable
for this competition and films are to be completed within
two years of the close of entries from residents of Northern
Rivers.
The
Byron All Shorts screening will be on Saturday afternoon at
5pm with announcement of the winner to the Sunday night Flickerfest
screening.

2nd year of our special NAIDOC screening of entertaining and
award winning Indigenous short films, all of which have been
screened to great acclaim at festivals around the world
Presented
by the Arakwal corporation, Flickerfest and The Island Quarry
this selection of highly entertaining, contemporary indigenous
short films provide great insight into what it means to be
indigenous in Australia today, as told by Indigenous people
themselves.
We
are proud to present the exciting showcase of award winning
shorts. They have been embraced by audiences all around Australia,
and screened at festivals all around the world. They provide
an excellent insight for all Australian’s into the richness
of indigenous culture.

Bob Mermaid’ by award winning director Darlene Johnston,

fun romantic comedy ‘Turnaround’,

who’s first feature film ‘Samson and Delilah’ recently won
the Camera D’or in Cannes.

75 min programme is complete with 'Black

Flickerfest 18th International Short Film Festival has celebrated
it's 10th year of being hosted with iQ Arts & Eco Centre.
Shane Rennie organiser of Flickerfest Byron said Flickerfest's
Director, Bronwyn Kidd has delivered another wonderful selection
of the best of short films and programmes from Australia &
around the World, the bigscreen in Byron Shire being the first
stop on it's 18 venue national tour. A great audience
bared the humidity & bathed in great film in full houses
all weekend, launched with a fantastic Opening Night of wine
tastings, cheeses, grapes and cooling beverages. Audiences
were treated to incredible films such as 2009's Oscar nominee
'On The Line' in Friday Nights International 1 programme &
in Saturday nights International 2 programme, 2009 Oscar Animation
nominee 'Lavatory Love Story and the Flickerfest 2009
Award for Best Film 'Dennis'. On Sunday night 'The Best Of
Australian Shorts', a selection from Flickerfest's 5 programmes
of Australian films in Competition, showcased a great selection
of Australian film talent including Frank Woodley's 'Chicken
Of God'.

Get involved in the regeneration
of a locally significant wetland, providing increased
biodiversity on the site.

you will be involved in activities such as:
- Seed collection and propagation;
- Water quality monitoring and constructed wetland development
to treat waste water on site;
- Planting;
- Track work and fencing;
- Weed control; and
- Development and enhancement of a community organic

UK animator Phil Mulloy who is renowned internationally

Day of Action Peace Rally in association with IQ presented
on the 2nd anniversary of the illegal Iraq Invasion a
substantial crowd gathered in Peace Park, Byron Bay. Noteable
proceedings included; Aboriginal fire ceremony &
prayer; Peace Walk around town featuring satin rainbow
peace flags; Talks at the surf club after the Peace Walk;
Speakers - Mayor Jan Barham, Cr Tom Tabart, Helena Norberg-Hodge,
Danielle, Nyck Jeanes, Gareth Smith, Seedsavers, Kali
Wendorf, Marcia Harris; Concert featuring reggae band,
Cloud 9, Gangagiri and BlissMongers; Documentary "Outfoxed",
about the Murdoch war on journalism; Movie about depleted
uranium and Into the Heart of Iraq. Also featured African
dance, contemporary dance, Middle Eastern dance and Indonesian
dance performances.
A Peace Expo showcased the efforts
of groups like Greenpeace, Oxfam, Seedsavers, Friends
of the ABC, No Landmines, Amnesty and local environment
groups. The

festival 21st - 23rd Jan 2005
Celebrating its 14th year Flickerfest
was the summer highlight of the cinema calendar. Flickerfest
took us on a unique global journey screening the two nights
of International programmes - the best of short films
from around the world. This year IQ is added a third night
with the special "Best of Annecy International Animation
Festival" program, screening exclusively outside of the
Sydney Flickerfest. Annecy is the oldest & most respected
animation festival in the world & this is the first
time a programme of award winners from this prestigious
festival will be screened in Australia.
